Current operations target constraints to growth (energy - Ghana; transit
corridors - Rwanda, micro-finance in Madagascar), hard to reach MDGs
(water supply - Mozambique and Malawi; under-five morality - Sierra Leone, and
HIV/AIDS - Horn of Africa), and regional integration (regional cooperation in the
Horn of Africa and strengthening a regional body, connectivity to transit corridors in Rwanda).
The seven ACGF projects have total projected disbursements of $188 million. Two projects for Guinea - mining and employment,
and Mauritania - transit corridors, have recently been approved for $35 million and are under preparation.
Early Results
Operations are just entering implementation. Examples of early results of ACGF
operations include the following: (a) 12 local governments in Sierra Leone have
developed action plans for under five mortality and identified funding gaps for
high impact interventions (such as vaccines, chlorination for water, training of
health care workers); (b) an on-going water project in Mozambique has installed connections
in towns which will be completed with ACGF funds and scaled up; (c) Ministers of countries in the Horn of
Africa have identified institutional arrangements and endorsed a regional approach for HIV/AIDS; and (d)
tariff adjustments proposed by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission were effected by the Government of Ghana.
